Is Treatment for Chronic Dehydration Complications Covered in Insurance?
Vote: 1
Chronic dehydration means our body does not get water over and over again. This can cause problems like feeling weak, kidney trouble, urine infection, low blood pressure or even hospital care over time.
Is It Covered in Health Insurance?
Yes, treatment for dehydration complications can be covered in health insurance in India. Whether it is covered or not depends on the policy rules, what the doctor says, if the person is admitted to a hospital, the waiting period and what is not included in the policy.
When We Need Hospital Care
If dehydration makes someone very sick and the doctor puts them in a hospital, the insurance may cover the cost. This can include the cost of the hospital room, doctor fees, tests, medicine, IV fluids, ICU care and the treatment bills as per the policy.
The policyholder guide from IRDAI says most new health insurance policies have a 30-day waiting period before we can make a claim for being sick, unless it is an emergency and we have to go to the hospital because of an accident.
If It is Linked to Another Illness
Sometimes chronic dehydration happens because of diabetes, kidney disease, stomach infection, loose motions or heat illness. If that illness is covered after the waiting period, the hospital treatment for dehydration may also be covered.
IRDAI rules say that if we already have a disease and its direct complications, they may not be covered until the waiting period is over.
Not Covered for Simple Doctor Visits
If the patient only goes to see a doctor and is not put in a hospital, a normal health insurance plan may not pay for it. We can only get money back for doctor visits if the plan includes doctor visits.
Not Covered for Tests
If a person goes to a hospital only for tests or to be looked at, the insurance may not cover it. IRDAI says that if we go to a hospital mainly to get diagnosed or checked, it is not included.
What Should We Check?
We Should Check If The Policy Covers Hospitalisation
We should see if the policy covers us if we have to stay in a hospital for 24 hours, or if we need day care or short stay treatment.
We Should Check The Waiting Periods
We should check the 30-day waiting period and the waiting period for diseases we already have before we buy the policy.
We Should Tell the Truth
We should tell the insurance company if we have diabetes, kidney disease, stomach problems or any long-term illness.
We Should Keep Our Papers Safe
We should keep all our doctor notes, test reports, bills, prescriptions and discharge summaries in a place.
Final Thought
Treatment for dehydration complications can be covered in health insurance if it requires proper hospital care and follows the policy rules. If we just visit a doctor or only need tests or do not tell the truth about our old illnesses, it may not be covered.
